MoonlapseMUD is a multi-user dungeon: a shared, persistent world drawn entirely in text, played live with everyone else who’s logged in. You explore the land of Midland, train your skills, fight what lives there, take on the quests of the people you meet, and do all of it alongside other players.

It’s made to be played in a terminal, the way MUDs always were, but with a map you can see instead of rooms you read about.

History

Moonlapse started in 2019 as a small Python game: a handful of players walking around a map in their terminals, chatting and gathering. It ran for a while, then went quiet.

This is its successor, rebuilt from scratch. The idea is the same, but there’s a lot more of it: a bigger world, quests and the people who give them, ten skills, combat worth thinking about, parties, trading, mail, and characters that persist between visits.
