Version 0.6.0 is out. It’s a small release: the game now asks you to accept the terms of use itself, the Linux client no longer crashes on some systems, and Ser Perth gives better directions. Get it from the download page, or play it in your browser, which is always up to date.
The terms of use, in the game
Until now, you agreed to the terms of use on the sign-in page, in your browser. That worked the first time, but if you chose Stay signed in, you never saw that page again, so when the terms changed you wouldn’t have been asked. And guests never saw it at all.
Now the game asks you itself, right after you sign in, before your characters. The terms are shown in the game window: read them with the arrow keys or PgDn, then Accept to carry on. No browser, and no code to copy from your phone.
- You’ll be asked once when you first play 0.6.0, guests too, since nobody has accepted them in the game yet.
- After that, only when the terms change. If you’re playing when they do, the game warns you that the server is restarting, and a few minutes later you’re back at the terms. Accept them and you’re straight back where you were.
- Decline, or press ESC, and you’re back at the title screen, with nothing changed. You’re asked again next time you sign in.
The terms on the website and in the game are always the same text: the game reads them from this site.
Fixes
- The Linux client no longer crashes on start on some systems. On some distributions (Gentoo, for one), the downloaded client crashed as soon as it started, because the system’s terminal library didn’t match the one it was built against. The client now brings its own, so it only needs a reasonably recent Linux.
- Ser Perth says where to find everyone. Partway through The Duke’s Diaries, Ser Perth only named the people to ask, and your journal placed them loosely, so if you came back to it later it was easy to lose track. Now he says where each of them is, and your journal does too.
Behind the scenes
- Your items are kept in a new way. Everything you carry, keep in the bank or wear is now stored item by item, where before it was one long list per character. You won’t notice a thing: it all comes through the update just as it was. But if an item ever changes, or is taken out of the game, we can now put it right for everyone at once, without anyone’s inventory going wrong.
Updating
Version 0.5.0 no longer connects: it can’t show the terms, so the game asks you to update. Download 0.6.0 from the download page and replace your old folder, copying across guest.toml if you play as a guest. The browser version is already up to date.
Thanks for playing. Come and say hello on Discord.
